Course Introduction

As counselling students, many of us are only ever given a whistlestop tour to cover the concept of the Inner Child.

But with the effects of childhood trauma becoming a regular conversation in the world of mental health, I want to encourage therapists to add this beautifully compassionate approach to their toolbox.

I want to show you the powerful impact our childhood experiences can have in shaping the Adult we become.

I want to show how when making a compassionate connection to the child we once were, acknowledging the child who actually lived through those experiences, it can lead us to discover the most rewarding and loving relationship of our lives – the one with ourselves.

Using real life examples and self-reflective exercises, this course invites you to start looking at the past from a place of emotional maturity, safety and support. To observe our childhood experiences with the eyes of an Adult and with the love and compassion of a Nurturing Parent, one that every child deserves but doesn’t always get.

"I really enjoyed it! I found the course to be warm, accessible and thought provoking."

Course Curriculum

During the course, we will explore the following key points

  • Can therapy really "fix" the effects of childhood trauma?
  • Recognising the influence of childhood trauma in Adult behaviour
  • Exploring the role Therapists play in connecting clients to their lived childhood experiences
  • Recognising and understanding triggers
  • Real life case study to bring the Inner Child approach to life
  • How applying the Inner Child approach can improve our capacity to accept and manage the emotional wounds of childhood

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at

  • Qualified Counsellors and Psychologists
  • Counsellors with an existing knowledge of Inner Child work (we can always learn more from each other)
  • Trainee Counsellors and Psychologists in their Final Year of training

"I liked the relaxed style in which you write. So many courses can be off-putting due to jargon and terminology. I think this aspect will definitely appeal to newly qualified or therapists new to the subject content"

"I found it to be a great introduction to working in this way and indeed increases the interest in working in this way with past trauma."
